The short version: we keep what you write so it can be marked and so you can see your progress. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to train AI models.

We do not keep recordings of your voice. When you speak, the sound is sent to a speech service, turned into text, and then it is gone. Nothing is stored, on our servers or anywhere else. What we keep is the text of what was heard, so we can tell you which words came through.
Your teacher, if you join a class with their code — they see your progress and your work for that class, and nobody else's students.
The companies that do specific jobs for us, and only that job:
Nobody else. We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising.
As long as you have an account. If you stop paying we lock the account but keep your work, because people come back and it should be waiting for them.
Your finished work stays on the record. A draft you have not submitted is yours to delete or rewrite as often as you like, but once an answer is submitted it becomes part of the progress record and stays there — that record is what makes the site able to tell you anything true about your English, and it stops being reliable if pieces can be removed from it afterwards.
If you close your account, tell us and we will delete your account and the work with it. We keep the minimum record of the payment itself, because tax law requires it.
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you everything we hold about you, correct anything that is wrong, or close your account and delete it.
Write to contact@lingualplanet.com and we will do it within a month. That address reaches a person, not a queue.
English Academy decides how your data is used and is responsible for it. If you are in the UK or the EU, this is your right under the GDPR, and the lawful bases we rely on are performing our contract with you and our legitimate interest in keeping the service working. If you are in California, this covers your rights under the CCPA. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.
One cookie, to keep you signed in, and it remembers which language you chose. There is no advertising or tracking cookie, which is why this site does not ask you to accept anything.
You must be at least 16 to make an account here on your own.
Younger learners can use the site through a school. A teacher creates the account, the school is responsible for having the parent's permission, and the account works exactly the same way — the difference is who agreed to it, not what the learner gets.
We do not advertise, we do not profile anybody, and we do not sell data — none of which changes for a child, because none of it happens for anyone.
