The short version

We hold your email address, your name, and the work you do on the site. Your teacher can see your work if you joined their class. We do not sell anything about you to anybody, and we do not use your work to advertise to you.

You can get a copy of everything we hold, and you can have it all deleted. Both are on your account page, and neither costs anything.

What we collect

Only what the site needs to work:

Your email address and the name you chose to show.
What you said during a consultation, as text, and what the simulated patient said back.
Your examination choices, your clinical reasoning, your notes and your case presentations.
The feedback and scores produced from that work, and when you did it.
Your class, if you joined one, and your institution, if you have one.
Your subscription status. We never see or hold your card details.

Why we hold it

To give you feedback, to show you your own progress, and to show your teacher the work of the students in their class. That is the purpose of the platform, and the data is the platform working.

We also look at the material as a whole to find where cases are unclear or feedback is unhelpful. When we do that we are looking at patterns, not at people.

Who else sees it

A small number of companies process some of it on our behalf. They may only do what we ask them to do with it:

Anthropic, OpenAI and Google, whose models produce the simulated patient and the feedback. What you type in a consultation is sent to them to be answered.
Google, for turning text into speech when a patient speaks aloud.
Paddle, who take the payment. They hold your billing details; we do not.
Our hosting provider, which stores the database.

Your microphone

You can speak to the patient instead of typing. When you do, your browser turns your speech into text on your own device and sends us only the text. We never receive an audio file, we do not store one, and there is no recording of your voice anywhere on this platform.

One thing you should know, because it is not obvious: the speech recognition belongs to your browser, not to us. In Chrome and in Edge it works by sending the audio to Google or to Microsoft to be transcribed, under their privacy policy rather than ours. If you would rather that did not happen, type instead — everything works the same way.

Where it goes

The site is hosted in the United States, and the companies above process data in the United States and in Europe. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, that means your data leaves it.

Those transfers are covered by the standard contractual clauses the law provides for. If you would like to know more about that, please write to us.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for any of these, and we will do it within one month:

A copy of everything we hold about you, in a file you can open and keep.
A correction, if something is wrong.
Deletion of everything.
An explanation of anything on this page you would like explained.

The first two are buttons on your account page, so you do not have to ask anybody. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area and you think we have got something wrong, you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

How long we keep it

While your account is open, and for thirty days after you close it. The thirty days are so that somebody who changes their mind can get their work back; after that it is gone from the live database and from the backups within a further ninety days.

If you cancel a subscription you are asked whether to keep your work or delete it. Keeping it means it stays until you say otherwise. Deleting it means the thirty days start immediately.

Cookies

One cookie, which keeps you signed in. It is not used to track you, it is not shared with anybody, and there is no advertising on this site. That is also why there is no cookie banner — there is nothing to ask you about.
